Notes[]

  1. The show began its run at Noon EST/11:00 A.M. CST/PST replacing reruns of the sitcom Diff'rent Strokes and sandwiched between the Reg Grundy Productions game show Scrabble and the daytime soap Search for Tomorrow. Halfway through this week, the mid-show logo is now on top of the screen as opposed to the middle, the lids are now in place on the handheld monitors, the font for the Ca$hword reward has been changed from white to flashing yellow and by the end of this week, the reward is now handed to the contestant in cash. Final tallies for the week - Gloria: 2 games, $3,900 (including $1,000 at Ca$hword on Wednesday); Pat: 3 games, $19,200 (including $2,000 at Ca$hword and $10,000 at the endgame on Tuesday, and $2,000 and $1,000 at Ca$hword on Friday).
  2. The red and blue chairs in the front game switch places, the slide on the puzzle board that holds the solution now has the Super Password logo, the reward for the Ca$hword is now a check, the mid-show logo now flies up as two transparent copies on the top and bottom combine into the solid logo, the endgame timer has been enlarged, the words for the endgame are now yellow instead of white and the letter displays for the endgame now instantaneously turn into a dollar sign for correct guesses instead of flipping horizontally. Also, the flashing letter in the end game turns solid black after an illegal clue is given. Final tallies for the week - Abby: 2 games, $8,100 (including $3,000 at Ca$hword on Wednesday and $2,000 at Ca$hword on Friday), Charles: 3 games, $27,700 (including $25,000 at the endgame on Tuesday).
  3. The red and blue chairs in the front game are back to where they were. Also the Ca$hword's Magic Toaster (though called simply a box this week) makes its debut.
  4. The red and blue chairs in the front game switch places. The front game's desktop color changes from all red to white and red. A Halloween episode with Bert and the guests and contestants wearing Cat masks happens on Wednesday.
  5. From this point forward, the letter D in screen text now has serifs.

Eight previous big winners: Marjorie Ozaro, Lisa Brown, Carla Cararini, Danna Clemens, Jill Roberts, Karen Schnur, Julie Segovia, and Natalie Steele (all women) were given the opportunity to add $50,000 to their previous total winnings. The Ca$hword was not played. The endgame was worth $2,500. Each Quarterfinal had two players play a game, the Semi-Finals lasted from February 7-12, 1985, and had two Quarterfinal winners each playing two games. For here, the endgame was worth $5,000.
  11. Tournament of Champions continues to February 13 with the Finals beginning on the 12th. The winner was Natalie Steele who left with a final grand total of $106,000 making her the biggest all-time winner in the series counting the Tournament; her total was displayed in the same font that would be displayed for cash winnings much later on in the run. Regular play resumes on February 14.
