Notes[]

  1. The show began its run at 12:30 p.m., replacing the second half of the talk show America Alive!, while Merv Griffin Enterprises' The All New Jeopardy! moved to Noon to make way for Hill-Eubanks' All-Star Secrets at 10:30 a.m., and was followed by Heatter-Quigley's The Hollywood Squares.
  2. Originally, the show was supposed to award points for each Password guessed. The points accumulated in a bank a la Family Feud. The value of the puzzle increased as more clues were revealed. But they felt it was counterintuitive to have the value of the puzzle increase as more clues were revealed and it became easier to solve. So it was decided to use a per-puzzle scoring system. The readouts for this early scoring system would have been on the front of the desk. From this week on, they have been faced with scrim and painted blue to match the surrounding carpeting.
  3. Neon lights added to the Password Puzzle board. Hole in middle of Alex's podium removed.
  4. Microphones on main desk replaced.
  5. Alphabetics board moves to behind the wall. Support microphone on far left side of desk removed.
  6. The show moves to Noon, replacing The All-New Jeopardy!.
  7. New microphones modified.
  8. John Harlan fills in for Gene Wood.
  9. Gene Wood returns.
  10. Minor rule change: Due to a number of letters the show had gotten about the game being too easy, opposites were no longer allowed from here on out.
  11. Days of Our Lives cast and real-life husband and wife.
  12. Originally scheduled for July 11-15, 1979. Due to a rant George Peppard made about Standards and Practices of NBC, the planned Monday episode was shelved by the network. Since the 1990's, it has been rerun by GSN and Buzzr multiple times.
  13. Minor rule change: Four clues per Password rule set. This week was something of a mini-reunion of The Better Sex, also produced by Goodson-Todman.
  14. To make up for the skipped show #111, six episodes were taped for this week.
  15. The Wednesday episode caused quite a bit of controversy, due to one of the puzzles being related to the Sicilian Mafia and Patty doing a Sicilian accent, which got muted and blanked out.
  16. Minor rule change: After a team correctly guesses the Password, they get to keep that option. Also, the show moves back to 12:30 p.m. to make way for another Goodson-Todman series entitled Mindreaders.

  35. Allen begins wearing a pin on his suit that says "Save the Hostages", a reference to the Iran Hostage Crisis.

  61. Gene Wood returns.
  62. With the news that the show was ending on March 26, six shows were taped for this and the next week, the final one.
  63. Final week. Because there wasn't enough time for one final playing of Alphabetics on Friday, it was decided to play in the front game for as much as possible until time was called.
