Notes[]
- ↑ Major format changes: From this point forward, as a result of requests from viewers "to add a little spice to the game", the Two Strikes 2.0 format applies, in which contestants may receive a total of two black X’s on a yellow background (one for each loss) before being eliminated. There is no longer any distinction between the "champion's seat" and the "challenger's seat"; returning champions stay in the same seat as their first appearance, and the challenger will be in the other seat. There may sometimes be two returning champions who each won a game against each other; in such a situation, Alex refers to them as “two returning veterans”. The bonus game is again played twice per episode, after every correct rebus solution, and always by the contestant who solved it correctly. Also, a new rule for the bonus game applies - every champion begins with 35 seconds and builds up their own bonus round time; i.e. every time the clock has to go up by 5 seconds for a winning contestant who just lost the bonus round, it applies to that contestant only. There are no more free spaces revealed if time is running short. There is also no longer any limit to how many times any champion may be in the Winner's Circle; champions retire only after either winning a car or losing two games. As a result of these changes, the broadcast format returns to being two games, both followed by a commercial break, and two Winner Circles, both also followed by a commercial break. Even though this format had been previously used for four months in 1988, it is presented as if it is brand new. Preempted on July 2 for Wimbledon coverage. Featured prizes: Bachelorette's Kitchen (Game 1) and His/Her Diamond Watches (Game 2). For the first match under this format, two new players start the episode off due to Garrett retiring.
